How to wear colour this winter
26 September 2018
Whilst we may not be in the full throes of winter (yet), a little bit of prep for the impending season will undoubtedly go a long way. Shorter, colder days tend to mean that we reach for darker colours, which will do very little for our mood or our style. Injecting even the smallest bit of colour into your winter wardrobe is the quickest, easiest way to make life a little brighter (as well as help you stand out from the crowd) – here’s how.
Depending on circumstances such as your job, personality and general outlook to winter, your idea of adding colour might be to go full throttle and ignore anything resembling a dark shade for the next 6 months. If this is you, more power to you, but there are a couple of colour-coordinating rules to abide by. Clashing insanely bright colours can look great in the right situation, but for everyday it’s best to be a little more subtle, and choosing totally opposing tones is a great place to start.
There are a whole host of factors (skin tone being one of them) to consider before you pick your hue of choice. If you’re new to the world of colour, experimentation is key before you dive in head first. Finding the perfect shade takes time, but once you’ve got it, it’s all about pairing it up with pieces that you already own. Bright red jackets, bright blue jumpers and bright pink polos all look incredible with navy, blue and dark green.
