Trend to know: the checked suit
28 February 2019
Whether you’re looking to make a serious impression in the boardroom, have a string of weddings to attend or just want to up your general style game, the one piece you should have your eye on is the checked suit. While this may not be a brand new trend that’s only just hit the catwalk, it’s a tried and tested one that’s been loved by stylish men all over the world for the past couple of years – and one that (for great reason) doesn’t show any signs of going away, any time soon.
The beauty of the checked suit is tenfold, but it starts and ends with its versatility. Whether you separate the suit and wear the trousers with a white T-shirt and trainers, and the jacket with chinos and an Oxford shirt for two different occasions or dress up the two-piece together with a slick shirt, tie and loafers for work or a wedding, there’s space for it wherever you should need it – come summer or winter.
The type of check you choose is also hugely important and will, of course, depend on where you’re going. Most commonly, you’ll find windowpane checks (larger, bolder squares) or Prince of Wales checks (smaller squares in subtly contrasting patterns), so it’s best to start with these. Confidence is key when testing the waters with any new trend, particularly one where patterns are prevalent – so pick a colour, fabric and style that you’re well versed in and feel most comfortable in, and go from there. And remember, there’s room for every type of man, every kind of look and all occasions when it comes to fitting in with checks – so go forth and test the waters. We promise, the results will speak for themselves.
