Mum’s best beauty advice

27 March 2019

Some of the best advice we receive in life often comes from our mothers – and beauty is no exception. It could even be that their pearls of wisdom have passed through the generations, making them as timeless as they are precious. So in the spirit of Mother’s Day and celebrating all things mum, we asked three of our favourite bloggers to share the very tips and tricks their own mamas gave them, and the products they themselves can't live without.

FIND YOUR MUM A GIFT

Amy Spencer, founder of style blog The Little Magpie

My mum and I are quite pared-back when it comes to skincare and beauty, but she instilled in me from a young age how important it is to take care of your skin. Her tips are to cleanse your face every evening and moisturise, moisturise, moisturise (this was reinforced three times to ensure maximum impact). Tap the cream on with your ring finger around delicate areas like the eyes and make sure to moisturise in an upwards direction so that you don't drag the skin. Drink lots of water, don't overdo it on the perfume - the key is to spray it in a little cloud in front of you and walk into it, choose between a heavy eye or lip when it comes to makeup and when curling your hair, tong each strand in a different direction to create a wavy, tousled look.

Hannah Desai, founder of style blog Cocobeautea

I am celebrating Mother’s Day by having a pamper session with my mum (pictured above). If there’s one bit of beauty advice I’ve taken from my mother, it’s to always stay hydrated and keep my skin moisturised – and never forget to apply product to your neck. I had no idea Next stocked such amazing beauty brands – there are so many perfect gifts to treat her to. I've picked out some of my favourites below:

Olivia Purvis, founder of style blog What Olivia Did

When I lived at home, I would often take my makeup off with my mum in the bathroom. She would be the last person to call herself a beauty expert, but I’ve learnt so much from those evenings we spent together; from always removing my makeup (even if it’s a late one) to being kind to myself. She taught me that dedicating some time to yourself every day is so important – especially if it’s your only chance to find some peace and quiet. Here are some of her must-have products below:
