Inspiration: A gentleman s strawberry pink silk satin embroidered court suit, English c1780, comprising of a coat, waistcoat and breeches in a design of stylised flowers and foliage. The inspiration for this cushion has been taken mainly from the coat with its small gauntlet cuffs, each decorated with three buttons. Pockets at each hip, flaps shaped to three points, with a button under each point. Handmade. The suit is English, the embroidery Beauvais, a small town in France. Tambour embroidery (embroidery done with a fine hook known as a tambour hook, workers used a round frame resembling a tambourine or drum) on a tambour polychrome floss silk, in a design of stylised trailing flowers; rose-like blooms in shades of pink, joined to smaller yellow flowers and foliage with blue ribbon tendrils.
