Jumpsuits vs. dresses

In the battle of one-piece outfit wonders, who wins? The classic summer frock or its cool cousin, the jumpsuit. Fashion blogger duo and best friends, Sarah Ellis and Philippa Bloom of We Are Twinset take on the debate.

SAYS YES TO THE DRESS

Philippa and I don’t often disagree on things but with our body shapes looking more different than ever thanks to my pregnancy, it was time to enter a debate. I live in dresses in the summer and now being pregnant it has become more apparent that they are what I am most comfortable in. I don’t mind feeling a little bit more ‘done’ than my usual jeans and a top combo and I love that a dress can be a go-to look for any occasion. Plus, I love the versatility of this season’s off-the-shoulder styles, like this button-front design by Label/Mix. It's the kind of outfit you can wear 24/7; in the day with a pair of flats or trainers and just add a chunky heel and a clutch for evening, no thought required. And don’t even get me started on going to the toilet in a jumpsuit… it’s dresses all the way for me!

TEAM JUMPSUIT

I’m all about a throw-on-and-go look but sometimes a dress just isn’t practical. When I’m running around after my one-year-old or heading to playgroups, a pretty frock just doesn’t fit the bill for me. A jumpsuit, however, is the perfect way to get out of that jeans rut, plus you can feel summery without looking over the top. This wardrobe hero is another example of a versatile item that can be dressed up and down to suit any event in the diary. I’ve worn this denim-look one-piece by Label Mix/Isa Arfen to the park with a pair of slides and then again in the evening with a statement heel. Jumpsuits are stylish but functional too, which is why they get my vote.
