At Next, we’ve gathered the best ways to store your favourite Christmas decorations to help you stay organised this year.

The Christmas Shop

When should Christmas decorations be taken down?

Some people prefer to take down their decorations as soon as the festivities end, while others like to cling to the Christmas cheer
as long as possible. If you’re unsure when to take down your Christmas decorations, why not follow the long-standing tradition? It’s said
that the Twelfth Night (twelve days after Christmas) marks the end of the Christmas period, so decorations should be taken down.

The best Christmas ornament storage

Festive ornaments bring us so much joy during the merry season. Here’s the best Christmas ornament storage method:

1. Wrap fragile ornaments in tissue paper or bubble wrap, securing them with tape.

2. Place your ornaments into a small box – a shoe box or small plastic storage box will do.

3. Fill any excess space with extra tissue paper, bubble wrap or packing peanuts.

4. After they’re packed, ensure the container is secured shut to avoid accidental spills.

5. Store your ornament container on a flat surface, and remember not to stack other decorations on top!

The best way to store Christmas lights

It’s easy just to throw your Christmas lights into a plastic bag, but this is how they become tangled. Save yourself the task of detangling lights next Christmas by storing them correctly:

1. Wrap your lights around a cardboard box, tucking in the ends to keep them secure.

2. Pop your tidy lights inside an airtight container, like a plastic box or waterproof bag.

3. Store your lights in a cool, dry place and on a top shelf to avoid damage.

How to store Christmas kitchenware

If you use extra special dinnerware, cutlery and glasses during the festive season, you’ll need to store them correctly to prevent any cracks or chips.

• Glasses: Wrap glasses in bubble wrap or tissue paper, then place them in a plastic box, ideally with built-in dividers. Pack bubble wrap into any empty space if you don't have dividers.

• Plates: Look for a cylindrical storage box with rigid edges. Stack the plates, placing bubble wrap between each one.

• Cutlery: When silverware rubs against each other, it can become dull. So, if you have a luxurious cutlery set, it’s worth wrapping the pieces individually in tissue paper or bubble wrap. You can then store them all in a labelled plastic box.
