Next are members of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). We partner with BCI, a not for profit organisation that works to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future.

When you see the BCI mark on Next products, you know you're supporting more responsible cotton farming practices where it matters the most, which is on the farms growing the cotton.

Our membership helps fund farmer training across the world, as it is important the improvements take place in the cotton field to support the BCI Farmers and the local environment. To become a BCI Farmer and earn a Better Cotton licence a farmer must demonstrate they adhere to seven principles:

BCI relies on a Mass Balance system, where Better Cotton can be mixed with other types of cotton on its journey from the field to the final product. This means the final product may not contain any Better Cotton, but the BCI Farmers always know their cotton is in demand.

Through this Next contribute to BCI  in equivalent volumes to the products sourced allowing BCI to support farmers directly with field level activities including training and monitoring, so the farmers get this benefit no matter where the Better Cotton ends up.

How mass balance works

Better Cotton is sourced from licensed BCI Farmers

Using the mass balance approach allows more farmers to benefit from the support BCI offer to help improve cotton farming globally.
