THE INTERVIEW

Sam Rollinson

22 August 2018

Sam Rollinson is one of the most in-demand models of her generation. In her progressive career, she has fronted numerous household campaigns and magazine covers, stormed the catwalks for the fashion industry’s biggest designers and has over 138,000 Instagram followers looking to her for style inspiration – and she hasn’t even turned 24 yet. Known for her English rose complexion and effortless, biker-chic uniform, Doncaster-born Rollinson was the ultimate choice to front our latest Brit-inspired collection. Here, she talks career highlights, Coronation Street and why nothing beats a cup of Yorkshire Tea.

SHOP THE EDIT

How did you get into modelling?

I was scouted at The Clothes Show 10 years ago when I was shopping with my mum. My family and I then came down to London and I signed with Select who are brilliant and I’ve been with them ever since.

Can you tell us a little about your childhood growing up in Doncaster?

I had an amazing childhood. I danced when I was younger so a lot of my free time after school was spent doing ballet classes and competitions during the holidays. I had a really great group of friends – we had loads of sleepovers and always had a good laugh together.

What’s been the best moment of your career so far?

There have been many! Shooting the Balenciaga campaign with photographer Steven Meisel was a highlight, as was opening the Chanel show and working with Karl Lagerfeld. I’ve been lucky enough to be featured in lots of magazines too, like Vogue and I’ve done cover stories for Harper's Bazaar and i-D, which was shot by Alasdair McLellan. It’s been amazing – all my friends and family saw me on newsstands across the country and it made me so proud!

What do you do in your spare time?

I love hanging out with my friends and going for lunch or dinner with them. If I’m at home, I read a lot or catch up on Coronation Street

What does being British mean to you?

Drinking loads of Yorkshire Tea and having a dry sense of humour.

How would you sum up British style?

Effortless and cool

What’s your go-to look?

I’m normally in skinny jeans with a printed shirt and leather jacket or if it’s hot I’m in a floral mini dress

Do you have a British style icon?

Kate Moss or Alexa Chung.

If you weren’t a model, what do you think you would be doing now?

I would have gone to university and studied philosophy but after that I have no idea.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without?

Yorkshire Tea.

Do you have a motto that you live by?

Keep calm, it’s only fashion.
