Sketch

27 June 2018

Visit Sketch London for it's luxe pink decor and unmissable afternoon tea. Our latest homeware trend, California Modern, is all about this pink tone. Interiors editor Rory Robertson pays a visit to Sketch, one of London's hidden gems, to see just how popular this new paint hue is proving.

Sketch London is a real treat if you have an eye for elegant interior decoration and furniture. Housed in one of Mayfair's beautiful old Georgian townhouses, it's a destination place for food, art and music. The Gallery Dining Room is a riot of millennial pink decor with witty, contemporary artwork by David Shrigley.

Particularly well regarded for afternoon tea and fine dining, the champagne and triple tiered cake displays are not to be missed.

Picasso had his pink phase, so why don't you?

All about art

The interior, which can best be described as bourgeois, is the brainchild of celebrated Paris-based interior designer India Madahvi. Having managed to capture the perfect balance of fun and elegance, Madahvi's millennial pink dining room has catapulted Sketch into Instagram stardom as one of the most photographed restaurants in recent history. Arguably, the main attraction is the Shrigley artwork, which is displayed in abundance across all four walls.

Feeling inspired to create a display of your own favourite prints and paintings?

Alice in wonderland

If pink isn't your thing then there are other restaurants and bar rooms to experience at Sketch too, including the Glade restaurant room which is decorated in a magical enchanted forest theme. The Glade offers an almost Alice in Wonderland-like experience. Decorated in mouth-watering teal, dark green and magenta pink paint shades, the walls are painted like scenes from the Renaissance period and resemble the lavish, detailed frescos from the period.

The throne

Don't forget to try the bathroom whilst you're there. Situated up a curved staircase these WCs take the form of individual egg-shaped pods and they are absolutely bonkers. Multi-coloured roof glazed ceiling panels illuminate the space in rainbow colours creating the impression that you might just have fallen into another realm with the coolest loos ever.
