GETTING DRESSED WITH

Emma Willis

The presenter, former model and mum of three talks fashion faux pas, wardrobe dilemmas and what her mum means to her.

Emma Willis is funny, really funny. Sit down with her for just two minutes and you immediately want to be her friend.

It’s a trait that has made the 41 year-old from Birmingham one of the UK’s most popular and successful presenters,

hosting daytime to prime time slots including The Voice, Big Brother, This Morning, The Brit Awards and Loose

Women, plus her Sunday morning show on Heart FM.

Dressed today in her latest edit for Next – a mix of relaxed tailoring with cosy knitwear and denim – the ex-model looks the epitome of cool, but has being stylish always come so naturally? “Before I had a stylist, I think it’s safe to say I didn’t nail any looks,” she laughs. “I remember one in particular: mini skirt, knee-high boots, a battered (and not in a good way) band T-shirt. It was a terrible outfit – but it was the Nineties, so that’s my excuse!”

Fast forward to now and Emma’s signature style is clearly defined: unfussy, classic and natural – but refreshingly, she too has off days. “I can spend forever in my wardrobe trying things on. Not everybody can throw an outfit together and look like Kate Moss.” Emma’s greatest tip is to trust your gut (in all aspects of life, but definitely with clothes), and most importantly, to make sure you feel comfortable. “Oh, and a great set of underwear,” she adds. There’s a pause and a fit of laughter before she confesses, “Actually, I never wear matching underwear – I have three kids!”

Married to musician Matt Willis of Busted fame, you wonder how she finds the time to balance motherhood with a storming TV career. Her inspiration? "My mum," she says. "She is the biggest inspiration a girl could wish for and the only person I've ever tried to emulate every single day of my life."
