Day 5

London Fashion Week went out with a bang last night - literally, as the paparazzi flashbulbs went crazy for the star studded guest list at Burberry.

Talking of studded, the key looks for next season to buy now are:

  • Pastels... in every shade from nude and blush to minty green and ice blue
  • Girly dresses
  • Chunky shoes
  • Gold detailing
  • Studs on accessories to toughen up the girly outfits
  • Acid wash denim
  • Grown-up sportswear
  • Short skater skirts
  • Tribal Prints
  • As for swimwear, the one-piece will be big news again next summer... opt for one in a big, bold print

Celebs we spotted on Day 5:

  • Victoria Beckham
  • Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto...

  • Liv Tyler
  • Mary-Kate Olsen
  • Emma Watson
  • Agyness Deyn and Nick Grimshaw
  • Alexa Chung
  • Maggie Cheung
  • Matthew Williamson
  • US Vogue Editor Anna Wintour
  • French Vogue Editor Carine Roitfeld and daughter Julia
  • Daisy Lowe

Day 4

Day 4 of Fashion Week and the front rows are starting to attract some seriously big names. US Vogue Editor Anna Wintour is in town, along with Donatella Versace. Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn have also made their first London appearances.

The shows they were here to see included Luella, Christopher Kane and Twenty8Twelve, the label designed by Sienna Miller and her sister.

And the designers didn't disappoint! Luella showed a very feminine, wearable collection, with lots of pale blue dresses. It was described by the ELLE team as "the wardrobe Audrey Hepburn would wear if she was young in 2009 and living in Shoreditch." It was cute and girly, but had heaps of humour, and the styling introduced an edge to it with patent bows and crazy, bright eye make-up. Key details to start wearing now? Bows.

Over at Paul Smith, after a season of skirt suits, the trouser suit made a triumphant return, with his signature flashes of colour.

And building on the grown-up sportswear look we saw yesterday, another key trend was hareem pants, which continue to be a strong look.

It's the last day of the womenswear shows tomorrow, and we can't wait to see what Burberry has in store! Stay tuned.

Day 3

Another gorgeous day at Fashion Week, and more seriously gorgeous clothes on the catwalk. Today's shows included Betty Jackson, Matthew Williamson (in a welcome return to London) and Julien Macdonald.

One emerging trend that the Cosmopolitan team are getting really excited about is the new take on sportswear. Your essential buy? A long, wear-with-everything grey sweater. For spring, team with shorts, but for now it's the perfect foil for a statement sequin skirt, or wear with leggings and killer heels.

After a sombre autumn/winter season, the overriding mood for next season is optimistic and upbeat and this is reflected in the explosions of prints and colour - summed up perfectly by the perennially sunny Matthew Williamson, and over in New York, Marc by Marc Jacobs. Bright Yellow is the go-to colour, so invest in our gorgeous Yellow Duffle, a coat that will take you well into next year.

So, back to the PPQ show on Saturday night. Despite a slightly disappointing celebrity turn-out, the show was striking for its use of only black models. As for the clothes, the predominantly pastel palette was punctuated with statement details such as bows and polka dots. Very cute and very girly... something we're seeing a lot of this Fashion Week. Speaking of girly, don't forget to wear dainty ankle socks with your heels - it's a look that's going to be big.

Day 2

The sun was shining as we arrived at Somerset House with the fashion team from Easy living magazine, providing the perfect backdrop for today's SS10 shows.

At John Rocha, romantic pastels were in abundance, with sheer panel detailing adding a sexy edge.

Margaret Howell didn't disappoint with a flawless collection of immaculately tailored trousers, loose white shirts and the ever-chic nautical stripe tees. Get the look by layering simple basics - our white shirt is a must-buy - over wide-leg trousers or an A-line skirt, and knotting a skinny belt around your waist.

White, white, white was the colour of the day at Osman, with a collection of minimal white dresses. Proving that plain doesn't have to be boring, rich textures such as suede were used to bring the simple palette to life.

Fashion favourite Kinder took a bolder approach, with dramatic dresses in black and white. Our colour block shirt fits the look to a T.

We're off to PPQ tonight, so more about that show tomorrow... stay tuned!

Celebrities we've spotted on the front row today:

  • Alexa Chung
  • Trinny Woodall
  • Jimmy Choo
  • Yasmin Le Bon
  • Erin O'Connor
  • Fearne Cotton and Peaches Geldof
  • The Prime Minister's wife, Sarah Brown
  • Singer Roisin Murphy

Day 1

London Fashion Week launched with a bang on Friday!

Celebrating its 25th year, this year the event is bigger and better than ever before.

There was a star studded cast for designer Paul Costelloe's opening show, with everyone from Joan Collins to London mayor Boris Johnson in attendance.

The one key trend in evidence on both the catwalk and the front row was the big shoulder. Wide, dramatic, 80s style shoulder pads jostled with more delicate, sculpted shoulders. Whatever the designers' takes on the look, emphasised shoulders look set to see us through spring and summer 2010.

For autumn, Next have some great pieces with shoulder detailing. Check out our on-trend tweed jacket - the perfect post-summer cover up - and the brocade dress.
